Skolernes landsby og Kabbelfredningen

Nørre Nissum - The Village of Schools

Nr. Nissum is a charming village east of Lemvig, located at the mouth of Nissum Bredning and the Limfjord. With around 1,000 inhabitants, the town combines rural idyll with vibrant community and historical roots in a scenic Limfjord context.

Nr. Nissum is known as the “Village of Schools” and contains the primary school, three further education schools, a senior college and VIA Teacher Training with HF. Every year the town holds the Education Debate, which attracts several thousand participants and focuses on education and training.

Cultural experiences and history come together around Nørre Nissum Church from the late 12th century with a Romanesque choir and tower from the 16th century, which reflect the area's deep roots in Danish church history and local community.

The surroundings invite you to leisurely cycle and walk towards the fjord and fields, as well as excursions to nearby Lemvig. Nr. Nissum offers an authentic experience with a focus on nature, crafts and local culture - an obvious stop in West Jutland.

Kabbelfredningen

The Kabbel protected area is an ice age landscape by the Limfjord near Lemvig, protected in 1980. The area includes naturally restored salt marshes and coastal meadow areas around Kabbel Manor, which are today publicly accessible and create fine living conditions for birds and small animals.

The landscape bears the mark of the last ice age with clay cliffs, meadows and Tannebækdal. The area clearly illustrates the geological development, where land and coast meet in a varied nature with sloping terrain and lush areas.

Kabbel Hovedgård is a historic manor house of approximately 243 hectares, with origins dating back to the 15th century and a distinctive main building from 1829. The farm is privately owned and there is no public access to the buildings.

The hiking trails

Below you will see the selected hiking trails from the hiking area with an indication of kilometers.

We have prioritized the trails with our favorite trail in the area as the first.

You can get information about each hiking trail by clicking on the images.

Ideal order of the paths

We recommend that you walk the hiking trails in the following order (or vice versa) to get the least possible transportation distance between the trails:

  • The trail at Høgsgaard and Hunskær 2.5 km (1)
  • Gejlgård, Ejdal and Byskov 5.4 km (5)
  • Detour to Hønehøj - Gejlgård, Ejdal and Byskov 1.5 km (4)
  • Hjertestien 6.8 km (6)
  • Østergårde and Sandholmdalen 3.3 km (3)
  • Kabelsti 4.5 km (2)

You can choose to skip paths so that the distance suits what you want to walk.

For example, if you want to walk 10.4 km, you start with the trail at Høgsgaard and Hunskær and then go to Østergårde and Sandholmdalen. You then finish with the Kabbelsti.

Please note:

Sandholmdalen can be muddy after rain and there may be overgrowth of blackberries and nettles, so sensible footwear and long trousers are recommended.

The detour to Hønehøj can be advantageously taken as part of the Gejlgård, Ejdal and Byskov route.
