Legind Bjerge
Hiking trails, adventures and places to eat
Legind Bjerge
The area around Legind – Højriis, better known as Legind Bjerge (Legind Mountains) colloquially, is an enchanting landscape where nature changes with every step. With almost 900 hectares of protected land, this is not only for the enjoyment of nature itself, but also for the visitors who want to explore the area.
You will experience a unique harmony between the beautiful Limfjord, the mountain ridges crowned by wooded burial mounds and the open moorland gorges with ancient sunken lanes.
The landscape took shape during the last ice age, which ended approximately 12,000 years ago. The mighty ice cap transformed the landscape into a beautiful mixture of steep hills and deep gorges, where small streams meander into the fjord.
The sand-covered Legind Mountains were once covered in heather. In 1892, a planting company was founded to plant the area. These were initiators from Nykøbing who wanted to create a pleasure forest for the local population at Mors.
The legendary pioneer in heath cultivation, EM Dalgas, described the area at the time as "Denmark's most beautiful heath plantation". Judge for yourself if he was right!

The hike through the magnificent Bøgedal and around Tvehøje gives you an unforgettable experience of the impressive nature that Legind Bjerge has to offer, including the preserved blackberry heath and the fantastic view.

Lilleris-dalen red route 3.6 km
The route begins on a wide, pleasant two-track forest road that winds along the narrow valley depression with picturesque bends and curves. As you hike further down the valley, the forest road gradually transforms into a path that, although not very well marked, exudes idyll.

Legind Bjerge yellow route 2.6 km
The route starts on a trail through Lille Trinddal. In the valley there is a good forest climate, where several introduced and delicate tree species have shelter from the frost and the westerly wind. Here you will find, among other things, real chestnut whose fruits you can eat.

Slåenskrænten 1.7 km
On the Slåenskrænt route, after going up a small hill, you follow a winding path through Højris Plantage by Gammelør, where the path can sometimes be challenging to spot.

Blåbærdalen red route 1.6 km
On the red route in Blåbærdalen (the blueberry valley) you walk along the edge of the valley, which forms a distinctive gorge. Here, at the bottom, you can clearly see traces of the old hollow road that led to the ferry site and bears the mark of wear and tear from medieval bullock carts.

Salamandersøen 1.6 km
On the Salamandersø route you walk in a curved landscape dominated by the forces of the Ice Age. You walk on the slope of a gorge and by a death hole, both created by the ice.

Søbakker 2.3 km
You walk along the scenic Søbakker, surrounded by forest and with a view of Legind Sø. After passing the entrance to Jesperhus Blomstrepark, you get a glimpse of the park before ending your route with a breathtaking walk through Store Bøgedal.

Smedebjerge Plantage 2.1 km
You move along a small, beautiful path through Smedebjerge Plantage, a private forest of 11 hectares, centrally located in the town of Vils. Along the way, you come across small information stands that provide insight into the plantation's various animal and plant life.

A. Smedebjerge Plantage 2.1 km
Hjertesti Ørodde 2.2 km
The path at Ørodde offers a pleasant round trip that follows the beach and winds through the park at Ørodde.

Ideal sequence of paths in relation to transportation
We recommend walking the hiking trails in the following sequence to minimize the transportation distance between them:
- Smedebjerge Plantation 2.1 km

- Slåenskranten 1.7 km
- Salamandersøen 1.6 km
