Nordfjends is a scenic peninsula in the Limfjord, located north of Skive in the tranquil Central Jutland landscape. The area is characterized by open spaces, gentle hills and coastlines, where fjord and land meet in harmony. Life here is lived at a leisurely pace, close to nature and with strong local roots.

The peninsula is known for its peaceful atmosphere and varied landscape, which makes it an ideal destination for those seeking solitude and solitude. The small villages, woodlands and meadows near the fjord create an environment where you quickly feel the connection to the place and its rhythm.

Nordfjends offers many opportunities to get close to nature. With its location on the Limfjord and proximity to lakes and green areas, the area attracts hikers, birdwatchers and nature lovers all year round. Here, nature alternates between the quiet and the magnificent.

The local community in Nordfjends is characterized by community and commitment. There is a strong focus on nature, culture and local traditions, and visitors often encounter open doors and smiles. The area offers both cultural experiences and cozy eateries, where the local hospitality is clearly felt.

Below you see the selected hiking trails from the hiking area with mileage.

We have prioritized the trails with our favorite trail in the area as the first.

Ideal order of the paths

We recommend that you walk the hiking trails in the following order (or vice versa) to get the least possible transportation distance between the trails:

  • Jelse Odde - green route 2 km (2)
  • Termø 4 km (4)
  • Borgmesterstien Trail 5.2 km (3)
  • Hald - red route 6.3 km (5)
  • Ørslevkloster Sø 3.2 km (1)

You can choose to skip paths so that the distance suits what you want to walk.

For example, if you want a 10.4 km trip, you can start with Jelse Odde – green route and choose to skip Termø. Then you continue along Borgmesterstien, skip Hald – red route and end the trip with a loop around Ørslevkloster Sø.

Be aware:

When the water level in the fjord is high, it can be difficult to pass some of the routes along the beach ( DMI ).

The path at Ørslevkloster Sø can be wet during periods of heavy rainfall.

If you choose not to walk the Hald - red route, you should instead start the Borgmesterstien at the Fortællerhus and follow the alternative route from here (+3.4 km). This route includes a visit to Kvindsnapskoven and offers the opportunity to take a detour to Helle Haltben (+1.1 km).

Experiences and sights

  • Helle Haltben

    Helle Haltben is one of Thomas Dambo's great trolls and is found resting in the forest floor in Hald Skov near Højslev. She leans on her arm, while her missing leg now serves as shelter for those who visit her in the tranquility of nature.

    According to the story, Helle was once a strong troll with two legs, but lost one in a fall. Now she has found peace in the forest, where she sits relaxed and invites visitors to explore the fairy tale.
  • Ørslev Kloster - Fortællerhuset

    The Storyteller's House (Fortællerhuset) at Ørslev Monastery conveys the monastery's 800-year history with a large model, film and stories from contemporary monastery visitors. It is open to everyone and provides a vivid insight into the place's past and present.

    The house functions as an active workshop and starting point for trips to the monastery's historical park and Kvindsnapskoven. There is both parking and access to public toilets nearby.
  • Kvindsnapkoven

    Kvindsnap Forest near Ørslev Monastery is a protected deciduous forest with ancient oak and beech trees. Historically, the forest was an important resource for the estate and the local area, and the name "Kvindsnap" comes from the term "snap," meaning a defined section of woodland.

    Today, the forest offers trails, benches, and footbridges, as well as the unique picnic shelter “Snekken,” shaped like a Viking ship. Visitors can also experience the historic dancing site and the old legendary tree, the Kvindsnap Beech, which still stands as a reminder of the forest’s rich history.
  • Transformation

    At Bådsgårds Mark near Hald in Nordfjends stands a former transformer tower, now transformed into an artistic treasure trove. Ceramicist Christel Bækgaard has transformed it into a small sanctuary where travelers are welcomed by two pig bears.

    The interior of the tower is clad in a ceramic mosaic of red bricks and raku-fired clay in cobalt blue, white, maroon and turquoise hues. The decoration blends into a painted light blue-green sky with clouds.

  • Spisestedet

    Spisestedet offers tasty grill classics and Danish favorites such as smørrebrød and shooting stars (a fish dish) – all prepared by professional chefs in an inviting setting.

    The focus here is on quality and taste – everything is made from scratch with fresh ingredients. A diverse menu and children's dishes ensure a good experience for both big and small guests.
  • Øhaven

    Øhaven offers tasteful experiences in scenic surroundings on Lundø, where the fjord, beach and stylish atmosphere create the setting for genuine culinary delights and relaxation in a special class.

    The cuisine combines rural traditions and global flavors with a special love for Italy. The menu changes with the season and is based on local ingredients and creative culinary passion.
