Jeginø & Tambohus

Hiking trails, adventures and places to eat

Jegindø

Jegindø, previously two small islands separated by a sound south of Jegindø Kirke, are now connected as a single island. Before 1916, the island was isolated and could only be reached via the ferry crossing at Tambosund to Tambohus Kro or via rowing ferry from Bøhløre to Hestør Odde på Mors.

With no hills and the highest point just 13 meters above sea level, Jegindø has a rich history, populated for millennia with traces of Stone Age settlements. Fishing has always been an essential part of the life of the island, which used to be as much fishermen as farmers.

In the changeable waters around the island, fishing has always been plentiful, and the old fishing environment can be experienced at the small museum "Æ Fywerhus" by the expanded harbor, which now also contains a marina.

Visitors can enjoy a day on the beach at Bøhl or take a refreshing walk along Jegind Tap. The island offers scenic excursions and historical stories that give an insight into life on Jegindø through the ages.

Tambohus

Tambohus is a charming old fishing lodge by the Limfjorden, opposite the idyllic island of Jegindø. Here you will find a true natural paradise that invites you to peace and quiet all year round.

Centrally located by the fjord is Tambohus Naturhavn, where visitors can participate in activities on and by the water. A fine jetty and a well-equipped harbor offer opportunities for swimming and water sports.

Tambohus Kro & Badehotel is a popular eatery that offers high-quality gastronomic experiences. Here, both honest food and gourmet dishes are served with care and love.

With its calm atmosphere and beautiful nature, Tambohus is the perfect starting point for exploring the surrounding Thyholm and Jegindø, and it offers visitors a real taste of Danish Limfjord life.

Experiences and sights

  • Æ Fywerhus

At Jegindø's harbor you can explore three old tool houses that tell the story of the formerly lively fishing in the Limfjord. These houses, including "Æ Fywerhus", provide a vivid insight into the fishermen's daily life through old tools, photographs and informative texts.

The island played a central role in the history of fishing, as many fishermen from Agger and Harboøre moved here and contributed to making Jegindø an important center for fishing activities in the western part of the Limfjord.
  • The Holy Spring

The Holy Spring, known since 1360, flows continuously with fresh water, approx. 10,000 liters daily, even in dry periods. Originally considered sacred before the influence of Christianity, it was famous for its healing properties and was a popular destination on St. His evening.

Legend has it that its healing power was lost around 1800 after a farmer washed his sick horse in it. Visitors are still encouraged to taste the refreshing water.
  • Bjørndal Tower

At Bjørndal Quarry stands Bjørndal Tower, an eight-meter-high tower built in 2015 and located at the second highest point on Thyholm. From the tower, you can enjoy a fantastic view over Thyholm and experience the beautiful nature as far as the eye can see.

In the surrounding area, you can relax and enjoy a picnic or a cup of coffee at tables and benches, and also use the fireplace at the tower.
  • Thyholm Regional Museum

At the museum, various themes are presented in separate sections, including a reconstruction of the lifestyle of an affluent family and artifacts such as a pharmacy and a telephone exchange. An agricultural building showcases various crafts and exhibits the development of radio and television, along with a fascinating Greenland exhibition.

Additionally, the museum features an exact replica of Søndbjerg's old school and a miniature version of J.N. Wilse's baroque garden.
