Klosterheden Plantage - the northern part
Klosterheden offers a rich and varied hiking area, where wooded river valleys wind through the landscape. The scenery is shaped by beavers and their dams, while open grasslands provide views over the stream’s course and the peaceful forest surroundings.
To the east, the terrain becomes more hilly, with heathland, lakes, and small creeks. The view from the birdwatching tower across the Ellebæk area offers a strong sense of nature’s shaping forces. Open glades and dense vegetation alternate naturally throughout the area.
Deeper in the plantation, dark conifer forests, bright beech groves, and quiet clearings create a calm and immersive atmosphere. The landscape shifts seamlessly between moist lowlands and dry ridges, offering hikers an ever-changing and atmospheric experience.
The area also offers cultural and nature highlights: a former hospital bunker in the forest, a birdwatching tower overlooking wetlands, and a scenic millpond—perfect for peaceful moments and panoramic views.
In the hiking area, you can explore four trails that extend a total of up to 16 km, as well as two bonus trails totaling 6.2 km for those with really good fitness.
